The Color and Gradient Breakdown

With regards to the background (color behind the text), you can work with no color (aka white), 1 color, or 2 colors (aka gradient). Next we will then work on the color of your font. We can use a wide variety of colors with your custom footer area, however the more colors we use, the more complex your design gets. We recommend working with primary and secondary colors to keep the design more streamlined. Our goal is to make sure your message area pops, so we might have to tweak the colors last minute to make sure the font is legible. I was doing a photo booth last week when a guest came up to me and asked if I was _____ Photo Booth Company. I said no and he replied how they were at a recent event he attended. He went on to mention a couple of things he noticed with the company. It took me a couple of minutes to explain the difference between our booth and theirs. I kept thinking about our conversation on the drive home, and it inspired me to write this article.

Since the photo booth industry is still in infancy, there are many unknown variables that clients and even vendors don’t understand. Then there are some things that just drive me crazy with other photo booth companies. Now, I take a lot of pride in the services Encore provides and the people we get to interact with are great. So I hope you enjoy my little rant on photo booths below.

1.) We use the BEST printers… Really ask them what kind of printer they are using, if it is not dye sublimation next the company. The printer can impact the quality of your photos. To learn more about the difference between dye sublimation and inkjet read our article here.

2.) You get a custom design footer… Take the time to look at their designs, are they all the same? Some people that run photo booth companies wouldn’t know how to design their way out of a tic tac toe drawing. A truly custom designed footer means font choices, layout options, gradient overlays, and proper shadowing.

3.) Our booths are the most comfortable in the land… How comfortable can it be to stand the entire time? What about your handicapped guests, how will they fit in the photo? A removable bench is the best way to go and they are just down right comfy. At least they will keep your guests from making faces like the photo on the right.

4.) You will get a professionally designed photo booth… It is important to see the quality of the photo booth. You have put forth so much effort in the finer details of your wedding. Last thing you want is a booth that looks like it belongs in a mall, or better yet, one that looks like it was made in someone’s backyard. If it is not completely enclosed then your guests will not have the right amount of privacy. This means your photos might turn out looking like blah.

5.) Our photos are phenomenal… Here is a quick litmus test, look at the sample photos on their website. Do the guests look pale? Do the photos look like blurry blobs? This means the photo booth company is not using a flash with their camera. This is frowned upon because photo quality is greatly reduced. It is way more fun to be spontaneous in the booth and take photos while moving. Would you want to sit in one place the entire time?

So you have decided to get a Michigan photo booth and started contacting companies. You spend 10 minutes on the phone with each photobooth vendor. They find out what you need, and say what they can do for you. Quick question, did the type of printer they use come up in the conversation? That’s like buying a car and not caring about the engine. The Photo booth’s main goal is to create memories that will last for years, and if they use the wrong printer, then they might not withstand the test of time.

What They are not Telling You

There are (2) main printer types used by photo booth rentals in Michigan. One of them is called an inkjet printer (IMAGE A), and the other is a dye-sublimation printer (IMAGE B).

I am sure that you have heard of the inkjet printer. It is most commonly found in a family computer room. The reason it is widely used by families, is because it is affordable and does the job. However, inkjet printer will create the illusion of an image by placing very small dots on the paper. This does not compare to a dye-sublimation printer which has a higher photo quality.

Which Photo Lasts Longer

When guests take photos in your photo booth, they will typically put the photos in their pocket until they get home. Dye sublimation printers have an over-coated protected layer to prevent the photo from getting damaged. This enables your photo to last for up to 100 years in normal conditions. The dye sublimation prints waterproof photos that are fingermark resistant. The output from an inkjet printer does not even come close to these standards… even with special inks.

Printing Speed

Time is of the essence, guests get anxious if they wait in line for too long. Dye sublimation printers can spit out a photo in less than 6 seconds. Some inkjet printers take up to 6 minutes. This is why many photo booth companies say you are allowed to take unlimited photos during the rental. They are limiting you on time not materials.

The Verdict

Any company that you consider should tell whether they use inkjet or dye sublimation printers. They shouldn’t try to justify their services with a protective plastic sleeve. This is just a short term patch for a long term problem. As you can tell from the information above, the dye sublimation printer wins hands down.
